Plymouth

Plymouth, Massachusetts Real Estate: Plymouth, Massachusetts Real Estate: As the site of the first English settlement in America, Plymouth has a history that is more complex than that of any other American community and residents are proud of their role in fostering continued education about early America. Museums, replicas and monuments throughout the town commemorate the Pilgrims and their lifestyle, providing a closer look into the group that made today’s America possible. Some sites not to miss are the Plimoth Plantation and the Mayflower II, Plymouth Rock and the Pilgrim Hall Museum.

The Plymouth Plantation and Mayflower II recreate the 1627 Pilgrim experience with a replica ship, replica village and character actors speaking in period dialects. Plymouth Rock, of course, is the site where the Pilgrims landed originally. The rock is protected today by a granite canopy. For a more personal look into the Pilgrim lifestyle, the Pilgrim Hall Museum is a must-see. As the country’s oldest museum, Pilgrim Hall maintains the largest collection of Pilgrim artifacts anywhere. There are also many other specialized museums in and around Plymouth, including a 1749 courthouse, a 1636 grist mill, a textile museum and the Children’s Museum of Plymouth. In short, the community contains learning opportunities for history enthusiasts of all ages.

For the more active-minded, there are golf clubs within and around Plymouth as well as several outdoor recreation sites. Golfers will enjoy the 216 holes of golf, among them the Atlantic Country Club, Crosswinds Golf Club and Waverly Oaks Golf Course. Boaters and fishers will appreciate the convenience of local beaches, ponds and charter companies. Walking and bicycling trails are located on several sites, including the Myles Standish Forest and along the Cape Cod Canal.

The climate of Plymouth is particularly moist, relative to other U.S. cities. Each of the four seasons sees a similar level of rainfall, usually between 10 and 12 inches. The local economy relies on this rainfall for its crops, the cranberry in particular, which thrives in this moist environment. The summers in Plymouth are comfortably warm, with highs in the mid-80s. Winters are much cooler, but don’t often dip below zero.
